Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO YOU GET TO BOCAS DEL TORO?

The main gateway to the archipelago is Isla Colón, home to Bocas Town and Bocas del Toro Airport.

You can also travel by road to Almirante and then continue by boat to the islands.

Once in Bocas, meet-and-greet arrangements and boarding can be organised depending on the boat’s location and the traveller’s previous accommodation.

This makes it easy to combine a few days in a hotel or resort with several days sailing on a catamaran.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BOCAS DEL TORO?

Bocas del Toro can be enjoyed all year round, although conditions vary depending on the season.

The climate is tropical, and the rain is part of the landscape that keeps the islands exceptionally green. At certain times of year, calmer sailing conditions prevail, whilst at others there are better waves for those coming to surf.

For this reason, rather than talking about a single ‘perfect’ season, we recommend choosing your dates based on the kind of experience you’re looking for.

HOW MANY DAYS DO YOU NEED TO EXPLORE BOCAS DEL TORO?

Bocas offers experiences ranging from a single day to a week or more.

On a day trip, you can visit some of the archipelago’s most iconic spots.

With two or three nights, the experience changes completely: you can get away from the busiest areas, sleep at anchor and really start to get a feel for life on board.

With 5 to 7 nights, Bocas becomes a true voyage of discovery, combining different islands, beaches, nature, water sports, culture and cuisine.

The more days you have, the fewer choices you’ll have to make.

Sailboat and catamaran hire in Bocas del Toro

Situated on Panama’s Caribbean coast, Bocas del Toro is one of the country’s most stunning natural destinations. An archipelago made up of islands, small cays, mangroves, coral reefs and a lush tropical rainforest that stretches almost right down to the sea.

Here, the trip isn’t simply a matter of sailing from one beach to another. Every day can be completely different: waking up at anchor off a deserted island, snorkelling amongst the reefs, spotting dolphins, exploring the mangroves by dinghy, discovering small local communities, going surfing or ending the day watching the sunset from the deck of the catamaran.

Exploring Bocas del Toro by boat allows you to reach places that would be difficult to visit any other way and to experience the archipelago at a different pace, far from the usual tourist routes.

The trips are private and the itineraries are tailor-made according to the days available, sea conditions and, above all, what each traveller wishes to experience.Sailboat and catamaran hire in Bocas del Toro

Marina was essential to making our experience in San Blas perfect from the beginning. She was the one who introduced us to Montse and Hernando's sailboat, and thanks to her attentive and careful mediation, we had one of the most special trips of our lives. EN

From the first contact, Marina was extremely patient and dedicated, always answering all our questions (and there were many!) with kindness, clarity and a lot of affection. Even from a distance, we felt confident and welcomed at all times.

She really cares about offering experiences that touch the heart, and she achieved this masterfully. We are very grateful for all the care, attention to detail and availability.

I recommend Marina's work with my eyes closed. She makes planning a trip something easy, safe and special. Thank you for everything!

An out-of-this-world experience. Being on a sailboat in San Blas is not just about sailing around the Caribbean, it is about understanding how the Guna people work, understanding that everything you eat is fresh and depends on what you catch that day, and sharing experiences with the locals and hosts, who are wonderful by the way. Silvia and Pablo are excellent hosts, and the meals prepared by Silvia are very tasty. Everything was perfect. We highly recommend this experience.

Marina saved my and my friends' trip to Panama by organizing a three-day sailing trip to the beautiful islands of the San Blas/Kuna Yala archipelago overnight. Everything was easy with her, and in Panama nothing is easy. The experience on the Bavaria 39 with Captain Marcelo was incredible. A thousand thanks to both of them, and to the sailor Jessy for her friendliness and incredible meals. If you travel to San Blas, it is essential that Sailing Life Experience organize the trip, it changes your life!!!!

We had perfect days aboard the Catamaran 570 this summer. We spent 3 days full of nature, wonderful food and comfort on board, with a crew that made all the difference. We visited paradisiacal islands, did stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, saw incredible marine life and a perfect starry sky. Cesar and Georgina served us every day with food and drinks worthy of a hotel, with great care and variety. Miguel, our sailor, was always available with the “uber” boat for tours. Thank you, Mari, for organizing another unforgettable trip for us, for the second time! The best experience in San Blas!

I don't even know where to start... The experience of living on a sailboat for two days was unique, A M E N S A T I O N A L! We were on the Jeanneau Sun Oddysey, with Pablo and Silva, wonderful people. We visited beautiful islands in San Blas, snorkeled, learned to sail, had great conversations, delicious meals and truly unique experiences. We were able to interact with the Kuna, meet people from all over the world, watch the sunrise and sunset at sea and sleep under a starry sky. If I can give you one piece of advice, don't miss this experience!
